Finger buffets for
formality or fun

Finger buffets are ideal for both formal and informal events. They can vary in complexity and depth of planning dependant on menu choices and the volume of people attending. There should be a wide range of food offering everyone a choice and it keeps the cost down as people tend to serve themselves.
The Red and Green Buffet Company can provide a range from very basic sandwiches and crisps to a full wedding buffet that incorporates high presentation, style and innovation. Use the following tips as a guide:
- Age – a major factor: food which generally appeals to a teenager will not appeal to most people over 30.
- Culture - traditional simple choices suit most people but try to introduce more interesting choices from around the world. This will broaden the appeal of the food. Also think about the cultural
requirements of the people who are likely to attend. Pork is a staple food in most British buffets but
meat from any animal with a cloven hoof would not go down too well with Jewish people.
Ensure you do your research!
- Specialist diets – consider who is going to attend. If you have no idea who is attending then assume that at least 10% of your attendees will be vegetarian.
The Red and Green Buffet company ensures that vegetarian food is prepared and cooked using separate parts of the kitchen and
with separate cooking accessories. Coeliac or wheat intolerant attendees are also becoming more commonplace and are easily accommodated with forethought, flexibility and planning. With specialist diets it is essential to clearly label and separate the food into easily identifiable groups. However, by far the most sensible route is to avoid making the food exclusive to one group
by using bold “just for Vegetarians” labels for example. Just ensure the veggie food is so good it appeals to both meat eaters and veggies.
- Event – party food might not be appropriate at a funeral, consider the occasion.
- Volume - a finger buffet should have at least 4 – 5 items per person particularly if your party/group is not going onto eat another meal in the next few hours.
- Ingredients – never skimp on cheap ingredients. Invariably cheap means it has been made by the lowest bidder with the lowest standards, the taste is often poor and often full of additives to maintain a long shelf life. Ask yourself, would you eat it?
- Colour and variety – The food should look appealing. The Red and Green Buffet Company understands the use of colour on a platter to make it more appealing and our presentation of food is of the highest standard.
- Keep cool and fresh – The
Red and Green Buffet Company ensures that the cold buffet food is
stored at between 1˚C and 8˚C to maintain the food in a safe, edible condition, prior to delivering to our customers. The food is made on the day, covered, refrigerated and delivered as close to the actual time of eating as possible. This is a really important food safety point; if you are considering making your own buffet, plan where it is going to be stored safely before you embark on preparing lots of fantastic buffet food.
- Additional sauces and dips – often overlooked but they really enhance the food. They add colour and offer more taste options. Homemade sauces have a shorter shelf life as they are made without E numbers or preservatives.
At the Red and Green Buffet Company, the majority of our sauces are homemade using the freshest ingredients; we can also adapt sauces to the customer’s taste, e.g. chilli hot or mild to enhance your buffet and always delivers on the flavour.
Pricing policy
We aim to provide high quality fresh food at a reasonable price, the
following buffets have been keenly priced for Monday to Friday deliveries
between the hours of 0900 – 1800, buffet deliveries outside these times
will be subject to a slight increase in price (dependant on volume), not
for us to profiteer, merely to cover staff overtime.
Our ingredients
As standard, we use English free range eggs and English or Irish
ethically-farmed meats. Our view is that British food has less of a carbon
footprint, is farmed ethically, and helps our economy. As an added bonus,
